Charity

Occasionally I run classes and events to raise awareness and support local charities. If you are involved in a local charity and would like to collaborate on a fundraising event please get in touch at melissaporteryoga@gmail.com

Here's what's been happening recently...

On Friday 11 October our regular Friday Vinyasa classes moved to Rushwick Village Hall for a special class to raise funds for the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust and Oscar Saxelby-Lee.

Many of you will have heard about Oscar, a young boy fighting T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Oscar's parents Olivia and Jamie have been fundraising through the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and amazingly in just three weeks and three days, the people of Worcestershire raised just over £500,000.

Thank you to everyone who came to our small charity class, and to those of you who couldn't make the class and donated anyway! We raised £155 for the Trust to fund research into the type of cancer Oscar has, so that they can help other children as well as using every penny raised for Oscar to fund his lifesaving treatment.

Raising funds for the Rory the Robot appeal

From spring 2018 until spring 2019 I ran a lunchtime yoga class for NHS staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. A percentage of all class fees were donated to the Rory the Robot Appeal - raising funds for a prostate cancer surgical robot.

Charity Yoga and Wellness Evening

In May 2018 some old friends, new friends and yoga family got together to share yoga, cake and wellbeing to raise money for the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust. We raised almost £300! Thank you to everyone who came to the event and also to everyone who donated to support our fundraising efforts.

About Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust
The Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust was set up in 2016 in memory of 4 year old Grace who passed away in 2014 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. In the UK, childhood cancer is the biggest medical cause of death of our children. Every year, just under 4,000 children and young adults in the UK receive this life changing diagnosis. The Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust is working to raise awareness, promote early diagnosis, and provide grants for research into causes of and treatments for childhood cancer.
